In 1980, Eleanor Lieber established an auditions program to identify and provide cash study awards to outstanding young American vocalists. The competition is expressly intended for singers in the early stages of a professional career.
First Prize: $10,000
Second and Third Prize winners will also be awarded, as well as an Audience Favorite award.
Each of the ten finalists will be presented with an honorarium.

The competition is expressly intended for singers in the early stages of a professional career. The minimum age of entry is 25 and the upper limit is 35 on the day of the final competition.
Applicants must be citizens of the United States
The closing date for all applications is February 25, 2008
Audition CD’s will be played, reviewed and judged by a panel of qualified Jurors selected by Christopher Mattaliano, General Director of Portland Opera.
Up to 25 applicants will be invited to the preliminary competition and will be notified by March 14, 2008. Participants will be responsible for their own expenses, transportation and housing.
Will be held Friday May 16, 2008, from 10am to 5pm at the Hampton Opera Center Studio Theatre in Portland, OR.
Will be held on Sunday, May 18 at 2 pm at the Hampton Opera Center Studio Theatre in Portland, OR in formal concert format with public invited.
